I know and have seen that there are many different versions of the Ford Mustang! The ones I know and have seen are:

Saleen
GT
Cobra!

Whats the difference in em, and which is better as far as performance?

A lot depends on the year of car your referring to, but I'll make a basic breakdown for you.

Starting in 94 and ending 98

Base - 3.8L salit port V6 (232 ci)
GT - 4.6 L V8 (281 ci) non-pi SOHC
95 and older Cobra - 5.0 V8 (302)
96 and newer Cobra - 4.6 L DOHC V8
95 Saleen S351 - Vortech supercharged 351w V8 (5.8 L)
95 and 97 Saleen - Vortech supercharged 4.6 L SOHC

New Edge Bodystyle 99-04

base - 3.8 V6
GT - 4.6 L V8 (265 hp)
99-01 Cobra - 4.6 L DOHC (285 Hp)
01 Bullitt - 4.6 L - Custom Exhaust, mild suspension and brake upgrade - (~270-275 hp)
03-04 Mach 1 - 4.6 L DOHC - 10:1 CR, T-3650 Transmission, Stiffened Chassis and Reinforced Rear End (310 hp) - Great for Drag Racing and Decent for Road Racing without modification
03-04 Cobra Terminator - 4.6 L Iron Block V8 with eaton supercharger - T-56 Six Speed and IRS. Not sure of HP numbers - Good For Drag - Better for Road Racing - the IRS is notorious for breaking under high (~500 hp) horsepower launch conditions.

Saleen
Base Level - Bodykit and Exhaust on GT
Perf Level - Bodykit, suspension, exhaust, and saleen motorsports supercharger

Roush
Stage 1 - Bodykit on V6 or GT
Stage 2 - Bodykit, Suspension, Wheels, Exhaust and Fuel Remap
Stage 3 - Bodykit, Suspension, Wheels, Exhaust, Supercharger

05-09
Base - 4.0 V6
GT - Newly Designed 3 Valve 4.6 (300 HP)
Shelby GT-500 - 5.4 Iron Block with Supercharger, IRS, and 6 speed Manual
Roush - Supercharged 3 Valve Engine with suspension and exhaust
Saleen - Same as Roush
2009 Bullitt - Same as 01 but on a 3 valve

2010 till now -

base - 4.0 v6 with 300 hp and perf suspension and exhaust
GT - 4.6 3 valve with new cam profiles and exhaust
5.0 - New 32 Valve Coyote 5 Liter Engine producing ~412 HP.

I'l give a break down a shot for 2011 no v6 crap .

GT (roush is no much more than a body kit this year )
5.0L 32Valve(DOHC) makes about 410hp 390ftlbs. can get a M6 or A6 trans.
0-60 ~ 4.4 sec.
0-100 ~ 10 sec.
1/4 mile high 12's
weighs ~ 3600 lbs
Top speed ~ 152mph

Shelby GT500:
Aluminum supercharged 5.4 L DOHC V8 makes about 550bhp and 512ftlbs
0-60 ~ 4.2 sec.
0-100 ~ 9.4 sec.
1/4 mile low 12's
Weighs almost 3900lbs
Top speed limited to 155mph unlimited can see ~175-180mph

S302 (saleen)
same 5.0L from the GT but worked on a little and has 3.73 gears(M6 only), makes 425rwhp 395ftlbs
0-60 ~ 4.4 sec.
0-100 ~ 9.8 sec.
1/4 mile mid 12's
Weighs ~3600lbs
Top speed ~ 154mph

2003-04 SVT cobra aka "terminator"

Engine: 390HP 4.6L SC
0-60: 4.5s -----12.8 1/4 mile
Notes: 3.55 gears ---6sp T-56 trans----independent suspension


2000 SVT cobra R
Engine: 5.4L 385 rwhp and 385 tq
0-60: 4.3s -------12.3 1/4 mile ---top speed 175mph
